Assamese translation

Assamese is an eastern Indo-Aryan language spoken by about 20 million people in the Indian states of Assam and serves as
lingua-franca in the region. The word Assamese is an English formation built from the word Assam by which the tract consisting of the Brahmaputra Valley and its adjoining areas are known. The people call their state Ôxôm and their language Ôxômiya.

Assamese is a rich language due to its hybrid nature with its unique characteristics of pronunciation and softness. It originated in Old Indo-Aryan dialects, though the exact nature of its origin and growth in not clear yet.
With the advent of the printing machine during the colonial era, the Assamese Script changed radically. These changes were effected, following the lead of the Bengali printing script, which were used in printing of the Bible and other religious writings. Atmaram Sarma, the Assamese translator of the Bible, designed the first Assamese script for printing in Srerampore, and the Bengali and Assamese lithography converged to the present standard that is used today.
