Serbian language is classified as a Slavic language and a form of Serbo-Croatian. Standard Serbian has been formed from the Shtokavian dialect. It uses both Cyrillic and Latin scripts and is spoken in Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Croatia and Macedonia. Most of Serbian vocabulary is of Slavic origin, however there are influences from Turkish, Latin, Hungarian and German. Serbian language gave the world such words as ‘paprika’ and ‘vampire’.
