Laos Business environment

According to export.gov website the Lao economy has grown at nearly 8 percent for the last decade and is entering a new phase of regional and global integration (April, 2019). That is to say major economic reforms led to a significant improvement in the business investment environment attracting by that foreign investments. One of Polilingua’s areas of expertise is legal translation. Having over 10 years of experience in translating legal documents and official reports, our company worked with hundreds of companies and NGOs.

One of Polilingua’s core missions is to help small and middle-sized companies develop and, in this manner, improve business environment to support sustainable growth. Having a solid background in this field, we believe that capitalism should flourish even in such severe communist societies like the ones from the southeast Asia. We aim to deliver fast and high-quality translations that ensure business development and strong business relationships for Lao local businesses with national and international business allies.

Transcreation Services

In general, in Laos and Thailand business etiquette is somewhat similar to the one from all over Southeast Asia. Because Thailand was never colonised, the business environment did not suffer from the western business tendencies. In order to fulfill customers needs, PoliLingua is offering TRANSCREATION services, that help deliver the right message to visitors and tourists that might not be able to interpret correctly the comunist and collectivistic business approaches that are highly mediatized. Marketing campaigns are mostly efficient when they reach the customers and Polilingua’s goal is to translate messages that will be clear, persuasive and attractive for customers. We break the intercultural boundaries, we TRANSCREATE.

Lao dialects

The Lao language is a descendant of Tai languages that in the past were spoken in what is now southern China and northern Vietnam. Like other Tai dialects, Lao is a tonal language and has a perplexing arrangement of social markers. Spoken Lao is commonly comprehensible with Thai and Isan, individual Southwestern Tai dialects, to such an extent, that their speakers can adequately speak with each other talking their separate dialects. These dialects are composed with marginally extraordinary contents yet are phonetically comparable and successfully structure a lingo continuum. Despite the fact that there is no official standard, the Vientiane vernacular has turned into the accepted standard language in the second half of the twentieth century.

Lao, Laotian or Isan is commonly used as a lingua franca among Laos citizens who speak almost 90 other languages which are poorly related to Lao.  Due to the large amounts of tourists that yearly visit the country there is a great potential for locals to do business. In the light of these events, Polilingua has helped previously small and middle sized companies to enlarge customer network and support the brand building process.
